IDG Expands its TechNetwork Ad Network outside the United States

May 14, 2009

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The rapidly growing IDGTechNetwork (www.idgtechnetwork.com) in the U.S. is adding IDG subsidiaries in Germany, Sweden, Spain, and India to the ad network. IDG Communications U.K. joined the IDG TechNetwork last summer. Since its launch one year ago, the network has grown to more than 150 non-IDG Web sites with more than 40 million unique visitors per month.

“This expansion provides technology marketers with access to an unparalleled audience of IT professionals and tech enthusiasts in several countries,” said Peter Longo, CEO, IDG Syndication and Networks. “With 30 channels to choose from advertisers can be very selective among enterprise, tech enthusiasts, and gaming and entertainment audiences.” The IDG TechNetwork complements the reach of IDG media brands in more than 90 countries.

The success of the U.S. and U.K. TechNetworks and the increasing popularity of ad networks led to this international expansion. Chris Byers, founder of Edugeek.net , one of IDG TechNetwork’s first publisher members in the U.K. said, “Working with IDG has worked out very well. We feature relevant campaigns at good rates and are able to harness IDG’s global reach and international sales forces to monetize our overseas traffic most effectively.”

IDG TechNetwork U.S. will lead the international expansion in conjunction with IDG subsidiaries that will handle ad sales and recruitment of publishers. Marketing programs include contextual and behavioral targeting, roadblocks and sponsorships, video ads, newsletter sponsorship, and lead generation.

Research Shows Ad Networks a Major Part of Tech Advertising Plans

In an online survey of 136 marketers and agencies in the U.S., 79 percent reported that they used ad networks last year and 85 percent plan to advertise in them this year. The IDG Research Services survey (http://tinyurl.com/cybksm) conducted last December found online advertising spending on networks is expected to rise from more than 21 percent in 2008 to 23 percent in 2009. Exclusive IDG research: Increasing virtualization ROI, decreasing virtualization costs

March 11, 2009

Thanks to its potential to improve efficiencies, simplify management, and enhance agility, virtualization is one of the hottest technologies to hit the data center in years. Yet an exclusive research study conducted for Accelerate by IDG Research Services makes clear that many companies are encountering stumbling blocks as they roll out their virtualization strategy. Virtual desktops ripe for deployment, hindered by cost

March 11, 2009

Desktop virtualization, with its promises of improved security, manageability and flexibility, may be on the verge of huge adoption, some experts are predicting.

But as with many new technologies, there is a catch. ROI is one of the main selling points, but desktop virtualization requires significant upfront costs and it can easily take three or four years to realize financial rewards.

“I see huge interest right now, for many reasons,” says Forrester analyst Natalie Lambert. “But the challenge is that desktop virtualization is a very costly endeavor. I don’t care what people tell you otherwise, they’re wrong.”

Gartner’s latest numbers released this month predict that hosted virtual desktop revenue will quadruple this year, going from US$74.1 million worldwide in 2008 to nearly $300 million in 2009.

Meanwhile, a survey of 340 IT managers found that 41% are already investing in desktop virtualization, and that the technology is a “critical priority” for 22%, according to IDG Research Services Group.

Data-Management Danger: Less Than Half of MDM Plans Are Effective

February 11, 2009

You probably don’t think “data governance” is that important a topic. Especially when you’ve got IT budgetary fires raging or you’re planning next week’s layoffs.

You may even think today’s data management and master data management (MDM) and similar enterprisewide data governance initiatives are too complex. And crazy boring. That’s OK. You’re not totally wrong.

But boring can be bountiful—as in saving corporate cash and increasing revenues.

That’s according to the results from a brand-new survey of 123 business and IT leaders at companies with annual revenues of $500 million or more.

First, the bad news: The survey found that data-management efforts in large companies remain “significantly ineffective,” with less than half of all respondents (47 percent) rating their organization’s data-management efforts as “effective or very effective.” IDG Research Services conducted the survey, which was sponsored by vendor Kalido.
